KATTEYCASA ADOPTION CONTRACT

Why is a Contract Necessary:

A contract not only protects you as the purchaser and Katteycasa as the seller, it more importantly protects the adopted kitten. Agreements between all parties help prevent problems that may arise due to misinterpreted assumptions. In addition, the TICA ethical breeder program requires that a contract is signed whenever a kitten is sold. Katteycasa Sphynx Cattery is a TICA and CFA registered cattery and we actively show our cats in both associations. This contract is designed to protect all parties involved in the adoption of a kitten/cat from Katteycasa. The contract not only serves as a legally binding agreement between the purchaser and seller, but also as a promise of ethical and humane treatment for a living animal.

PLEASE NOTE: It is understood that degrees in hairlessness in Sphynx vary from cat to cat and that NO feline is completely hairless. Furthermore, it is understood that hormones and genetics play an important role in hairlessness and that even though a Sphynx kitten may be almost hairless when sold, it is possible that said kitten could develop some hair after being neutered/spayed, or as it grows older. It is impossible to guarantee that any Sphynx cat or kitten will not grow some hair at some point in the future.

PURCHASER REQUIREMENTS

You are purchasing a most unique and lovable creature. At Katteycasa Sphynx Cattery, we put our kitten’s/cat’s needs first and we wish for you to do the same. As the purchaser, you agree to the following :

Kitten/Cat will visit your veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival in order to verify health. Failure to make this visit will nullify the health guarantee. This is to confirm the kitten/cat is healthy, as well as protect the Seller from health issues that may be acquired after delivery. Under NO circumstances is the Seller liable for any veterinarian bills.

Kitten/Cat will receive booster vaccinations, yearly health examinations and any procedures and/or treatments as recommended by your veterinarian.

Kitten/Cat will be supplied with fresh water and dry food at all times. Sphynx do tend to eat more often than cats with a fur coat.

A weekly bath, ear cleaning, and toe/claw cleaning is highly recommended. Sphynx produce skin oil that, if left unattended, could cause skin issues and ear infections.

We highly recommend NOT declawing. PLEASE understand that declawing is not a simple clipping of the nail or claw, it is an AMPUTATION OF THE FIRST JOINT. Weekly or bi-weekly nail clipping and the availability of a scratching post should eliminate most scratching problems. ( Our cats prefer the sisal rope scratching posts ).

Kitten/Cat will not be given or sold to any pet store, given or sold to a research laboratory, given or surrendered to an animal shelter or rescue shelter, or abandoned under any circumstances. If you find that you are no longer able to care for the kitten/cat, the Seller will be contacted in order to help find a suitable home.

Kitten/cat should not be allowed outside unless on a leash. Remember that dangerous organisms can live on sidewalks, grasses, etc. Sphynx are also temperature sensitive and can sunburn easily.

All deposits are non-refundable. If, however, the kitten/cat should die before the purchaser picks up his/her kitten, any money already paid/deposited, and only these payments, shall be returned to the purchaser, or purchaser may choose another available kitten as a replacement.

If Kitten/Cat is to be shipped, purchaser is responsible for all shipping/insurance costs.

Transfer of ownership of Kitten/Cat and all responsibilities of said Kitten/Cat occur as soon as the Kitten/Cat leaves our cattery.

Your cat/kitten will be spayed/neutered by our veterinarian before they leave our cattery.

SELLER’S AGREEMENT

The Seller Agrees to the Following:

Kitten/Cat has been raised with freedom to roam within the house. Cages are not used.

Kitten/Cat will be registered with both TICA and CFA. Registration papers will be given to the purchaser on delivery.

Kitten/Cat has never been abused or neglected - i.e., left without water or food, while under the care of Katteycasa.

Kitten/Cat is of social temperament. The kittens have human interaction (including hugs and kisses) from the time they are born.

Kitten/Cat’s health maintenance record will be provided to the purchaser. The maintenance will include up-to-date vaccinations, deworming, and Feline Leukemia testing.

Kitten/Cat is guaranteed to be healthy at the time he/she leaves our cattery. No known sick animal will ever be placed by this cattery to any purchaser. This is the kitten’s/cat’s health guarantee. All kitten’s come with a one-year (from the date of birth) genetic or congenital guarantee. If, during the kitten’s first year of life, your veterinarian finds a congenital birth defect, the kitten will be replaced with a kitten of equal value, less the shipping cost. Guarantees are not transferable and are valid for the original purchaser only.

Kitten/Cat will have up-to-date vaccinations. Due to the controversy of the FIP and FeLV vaccines, we do not participate in the use of them; however, we do guarantee the kitten/cat to be free of these diseases. PLEASE do not use the FIP vaccine as it is a live vaccine and has been known to kill kittens. Use of this vaccine will nullify the health guarantee we provide.

Your kitten will need to be spayed/neutered as soon as your veterinarian deems appropriate (5 to 6 months of age usually). Purchaser will then notify the Seller and provide proof of the surgery from your veterinarian. When proof is received, registration papers for the kitten will be sent.

SELLER’S AGREEMENT

The Seller Agrees to the Following:

Kitten/Cat has been raised with freedom to roam within the house. Cages are not used.

Kitten/Cat will be registered with both TICA and CFA. Registration papers will be shipped to you when proof of spay/neuter has been sent from your veterinarian. Registration papers will be given to the purchaser on delivery only if you are buying a kitten/cat as a "potential breeder". Fertility cannot be guaranteed.

Kitten/Cat has never been abused or neglected - i.e., left without water or food, while under the care of Katteycasa.

Kitten/Cat is of social temperament. The kittens have human interaction (including hugs and kisses) from the time they are born.

Kitten/Cat’s health maintenance record will be provided to the purchaser. The maintenance will include up-to-date vaccinations, deworming, and Feline Leukemia testing.
